This Privacy Policy describes how Camerise Communities, a project of Glendon College and York University (“we”, “our”, “us”), collects, uses, retains, and protects your personal information when you use our online community accessible via:

our iOS and/or Android mobile application (“Camerise Communities”)
We are committed to protecting the privacy of our members and to complying with applicable Canadian laws, including PIPEDA, as well as relevant provincial laws, including those applicable in Ontario.
1) Private Access and Member-Only Content
Our community is a private space accessible only upon registration.
Published content (posts, comments, groups, files, private messages) is not visible to the public.
Content is not indexed by search engines.
Access is restricted to logged-in members.
⚠️ Despite our security measures, no platform can guarantee absolute confidentiality. We encourage members not to post sensitive information.

When you use the Application, we may collect:

technical identifiers (e.g., device ID or notification token)

3) How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information solely to:
create and manage your member account
allow you to access features (BuddyBoss)
facilitate exchanges between members
ensure the security of the Site and the Application
prevent spam, fraud, and unauthorized access
enforce our community rules and moderate content
send service-related communications (security, account, notifications)
improve user experience, performance, and stability
We do not sell your personal information.
4) Moderation and Security
To maintain a secure environment, we may:
process member reports
remove or hide content
suspend or delete an account in case of violation
retain minimal evidence in cases of serious abuse (harassment, threats, illegal content)
Access to private messages
Private messages are intended for members. However, in the event of a report, internal investigation, serious risk, or legal obligation, we may be required to examine certain strictly necessary content, to the extent permitted by law.
5) Sharing of Information
We share your information only:
a) With other members
Your name/pseudonym, profile, and community content are visible to logged-in members, depending on the Site’s settings.
b) With our service providers
We use providers necessary for operation (hosting, backups, security, emails, push notifications).
They only have access to the information necessary for their services.
c) Legal obligations
We may disclose information if required by law (order, investigation, prevention of serious risk).
6) Hosting in Canada
Our Site is hosted in Canada by a Canadian provider.
Data is stored on servers located in Canada.
7) BuddyBoss Technology
Our community uses BuddyBoss technology (WordPress) to manage:
member profiles
groups
activities and posts
private messaging
notifications
Community data is stored in our database and used solely to provide the service.
8) Notifications (Web and Application)
a) Internal notifications
The Site and the Application may send internal notifications (e.g., activity, replies, messages).
b) Push notifications
If you enable push notifications on mobile, we may send you:
private message alerts
replies to your posts
group notifications
important service-related communications
You can disable push notifications at any time in your device settings.
9) Cookies and similar technologies
We use cookies to:
maintain your active session
remember certain preferences
enhance security
You can disable cookies in your browser, but some functions may be limited.
10) Device Permissions (mobile)
The Application may request access to certain device functions, for example:
camera (profile picture, image sharing)
photo library / files
push notifications
microphone (if audio features are present)
These permissions are optional and can be disabled in your device settings.
11) Data Retention
We retain data for as long as necessary to:
provide the service
manage security and moderation
comply with our legal obligations
Account Deletion
You may request the deletion of your account.
Depending on the Site’s configuration, certain content may be deleted, anonymized, or retained without a direct link to your identity.

13) Confidentiality of Exchanges and Member Responsibility
Even though the community is private:
members can see your content
screenshots or copies may be made
We recommend not posting sensitive information (bank details, official documents, medical information, etc.).
14) Minors
The Site and the Application are not intended for persons under 18 years of age, unless otherwise indicated.
15) Policy Changes
We may modify this policy at any time.
The update date will be indicated at the top.
In the event of a significant change, a notice may be posted on the Site or sent to members.
